Bed Bugs becoming more resilient?
According to new leading research, bed bugs are becoming more resilient to pest control measures, meaning more and more are getting in to our beds.
Investigators found that tropical bed bugs are much better at being able to use small pads on their legs to grip the surface of the trap and scale the inner wall. More alarmingly, tests done on bed bugs in 2014 found that one pregnant bed bug has the capability to reproduce so quickly, that you could start a huge infestation very quickly. The researches at Sheffield University found that the pregnant bed bug could rapidly create a colony of thousands that feed on humans.
Bed Bugs however were much more common years ago, with an estimated 75 per cent of households affected in the late 1800’s but by the end of world war two, that had fallen massively to only around one in every 4 homes.
They are however returning and some in the industry have claimed that the resurgence has been due to a resistance to commonly used insecticides, as well as more people embarking on international travel.
Lots of people have a fear of bed bugs, however they can be easily transferred between bags and via people when travelling and it is not a sign of uncleanliness. Even the cleanest people in the world can be affected by one bed bug reproducing quickly.
